How do I open my Eheim 2227 canister filter without it pouring water?

Hey guys, I have a Eheim 2227 Canister Filter that is up and running and I'd not sure how I can open it to take it apart without water shooting everywhere...
The power is OFF but when I unattach the lid clamps it just shoots out.

there should be a valve on the inlet and outlet tube. befor you take the filter apart open the inlet valve (bottom one), this will let some of the water out. then close the bottom and open the top valve and pull the lid off.
